Derry's Guildhall

On Thursday, August 1, we toured Derry. First stop, the Derry Guildhall, built in 1890. Fire destroyed most of the building in 1908; the rebuilding was finished in 1912. Two bombs damaged it in 1972; the rebuilding was finished in 1977. It was restored again starting in 2010 and reopened in 2013 for the "Derry-Londonderry UK City of Culture year."



The Guildhall has 23 stained glass windows, including this set:

There is also a large pipe organ:



The Guildhall is multi-purpose. There is tourist information, a cafe, and a wonderful exhibit on the history of the Ulster Plantation. It is also where the city government has at least some of its offices, and there are rooms to rent for events, such as weddings. We eaves-camera'd on this one:
